Arbec is a private forestry company that manufactures OSB panels and produces lumber (in association with an affiliated company, Groupe Rémabec Inc.). Their production activities are carried out in plants at several locations in Quebec and one in New Brunswick. Arbec plants have an annual production capacity of 620,000 m³ (700 mmsf) of OSB and 700 million mpmp of softwood lumber.
Arbec owns 50% of Groupe Rémabec, which is the largest forestry operator in Quebec (annual wood harvest of 3 million m³). Founded in 1998, Groupe Rémabec is a pillar of the Quebec forestry industry. It is an integrated company that specializes in forest operations, wood processing and the international sale of lumber products. Groupe Rémabec is Quebec’s largest privately owned forestry company and one of its most important sawyers.
Arbec holds a minority stake in Bioénergie AE Côte-Nord Canada Inc., which is currently building a residual biomass-based biofuel production plant in Port-Cartier, Quebec. This plant will be the first commercial-scale installation of its kind in Quebec. The project aims to convert residual forest biomass to produce 40 million litres of bio-oil per year. This bio-oil could lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 70 000 tonnes. Bio-oil production is expected to begin in January 2018.
Arbec is wholly owned by Jolina Capital Inc., the holding company of Mr. Lino Saputo.
